The apex industry and trade chamber Assocham has welcomed the electronic hardware policy announced by the Andhra Pradesh Government coinciding with the annual IT Summit.

The chamber wanted a special task force to oversee its implementation and outlined the need for its effective implementation to achieve desired results.

Mr Ravindra Sannareddy, Chairman, Assocham Southern Regional, Council complimented the State Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, and the Government for the policy stating that it was timely and sought to harness the potential for growth in the electronic and computer hardware industry.

He said that the proposal to create hardware manufacturing clusters would go a long way in strengthening the electronic hardware sector.

The chamber lauded the move to provide incentives to hardware companies for design, assembly, testing and packaging plants. These proposals are likely to spawn fresh ideas for design and production of newer products.

On the proposal to convert existing clusters such as Fab City and Aeronautical Special Economic Zones into centres of excellence and creation of four hubs around Hyderabad spread over 300 acres of multi-product electronic SEZs, Mr Sannareddy said this would ensure optimum utilisation of scarce land resources.

The policy is likely to pave way for spurt in investments in the State making it one of the biggest contributors to the national electronic industry. The move is likely to expand domestic production of electronic products while reducing dependence on imports.
