ASUS Technology, one of the leading manufactures of notebook computers in the world, is aiming to be among the top three companies marketing the products in India by 2013.
The company, which started operations India around five years ago, has already got five per cent market share in country and targets to achieve 10 per cent by end of 2012, according to Mr Alex Huang, Country Head, System Business Group, ASUS Technology Private Ltd. (India).
Mr Huang was here to inaugurate an exclusive retail outlet in the city, which happens to be its fifth outlet in the country and the first one in the South. It had earlier opened an outlet in New Delhi, two in Kolkata and another one in Goa recently.
ASUS has partnered with global chip maker Intel and telecom services provider Reliance Communications (RCom) to market Eee PC netbooks in the country at a price of Rs. 9,999. The move is designed to help people, who do not yet own a PC yet, gain access to computing and Internet.
Mr Huang told Business Line that retail outlets would be opened in Jaipur and Thane shortly and the plan was to take the number of outlets to around 15 by the December-end. More outlets would be opened thereafter in various parts of the country along with service centres. The company has now about 100 service centres.
He said that ASUS was now one of the top three manufacturers of notebooks in the world and also the world's fastest notebook, ASUS W90. The company has strong presence in over 50 countries, with offices in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, the US and South Africa, with around 11,000 employees, 3,000 R&D staff and 77 support centres worldwide. Notebooks and Eee PC netbooks account for 74.7 per cent of its global revenue.
