Gujarat-based Azure Knowledge Corporation, a KPO and BPO company, plans to hire 1,500 employees this year to take its strength to 5,000.

Awarded for being the highest employment generator in the State’s emerging ICT sector by the Gujarat Electronic and Software Industries Association (GESIA) here for the fifth year in a row, the company said on Thursday that Azure has grown from just 800 staff in 2007 to 3,500.

Infosys Ltd co-founder and CEO, Mr S.D. Shibulal, decorated the company with the award at a function here on Wednesday.

Mr Dushyant Joshi, Chairman and Managing Director, said that growing from just one delivery centre at Ahmedabad in 2006, Azure now serves its global clients through eight centres at Pune, Chennai, Delhi/NCR and Ahmedabad in India, Xi’an and Guangzhou in China and Nairobi in Kenya. It also has a sales and client relationship office at Philadelphia, USA.

Mr Jay Ruparel, CEO, said Azure is the only Gujarat-based ICT company to cross the 3,500-employee mark and reaching 5,000 this year, which could make it to rub shoulders with the top 25 KPO/BPO companies in India. Currently, it is already among the top 10 KPO providers in India, based on employee size. Of the existing 3,500 employees, more than 2,600 are based in Gujarat.
