The draft policy on IT roadmap in Bengal will focus on development of the hardware sector and give emphasis on harnessing the intellectual capital in the State. The policy will aim to help the State incorporate best practices in IT.
“We are in the process of locating hardware investors. It will be an industry-friendly policy and will be formulated after going through IT policies of other States,” Mr Partha Chatterjee, State IT Minister, said here on Thursday.
The draft policy would soon be placed before the Chief Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, for approval, Mr Chatterjee said while speaking on the sidelines of a seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The State had last prepared an IT policy in 2003 under the Chief Ministership of Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
According to Mr Chatterjee, attempts are also being made by the department to simplify the application process for starting new businesses by bringing down the 56-page application to half its size.
