Bharti Airtel on Tuesday said its subsidiary Bharti Airtel International (Netherlands BV), and Eaton Towers, (independent telecoms tower company) in Africa have concluded the sale and purchase of the tower assets of Bharti Airtel Burkina Faso. With this, Airtel, the world’s third largest telecom operator, has now concluded sales of around 9,000 telecom towers in eight African countries.
2,500 towers Eaton Towers has acquired 2,500 towers from Airtel in four countries — Ghana, Uganda, Kenya and Burkina Faso — and in each of these, it has committed to a 10-year tenancy contract to Eaton Towers, the company said.
“We are pleased to close this fourth transaction with Eaton Towers and we continue to explore other opportunities to work together,” Christian De Faria, Chief Executive Officer, Bharti Airtel Africa, said.
Airtel has decided to exit from its tower business in Africa, and has started selling over 14,000 mobile towers across 20 countries in the continent to focus on its core business and customers.
