Bharti Airtel now second largest telecom operator in Nigeria

Bharti Airtel has become the second largest mobile telecommunications operator in Nigeria, statistics from the country’s market regulator shows.

As on February 2014, Airtel Nigeria, had a total subscriber count of 26,194,336, according to data from the Nigerian Communications Commission.

MTN leads the pack with 57,183,745 subscribers while Glo and Etisalat had 24,490,650 and 18,119,397 subscribers respectively.

“It is also a clear indication of the trust that a growing sector of the population have started to have in us…Nigeria continues to be a very competitive telecoms market and our intention is to ensure that we continue to innovate and make life easier for our customers,” said Christian de Faria, Airtel Africa CEO.
