CA Technologies, which relaunched its services business last year, has said there is a clear shift in the IT needs of customers in favour of the cloud. The services arm is in the process of assisting its clients in relevant requirements.
A relatively new business for CA Tech, the services arm doesn’t compete with big boys such as TCS, Wipro and Infosys. Its activity is confined to helping the CA Tech customers in deployment, architecture or in development of applications, again based on solutions it offers.
Expansion
The services arm of CA Tech would set up a global development centre in the European Union. It is yet to decide on the location. “We have recently set up a centre in Mexico to cater to the Latin American and North American markets,” a top CA Technologies executive told
Besides field staff in major metros, it has a 200-member- strong centre in Hyderabad at the technology centre. The services arm employs about 1,500, which is about 10 per cent of the company’s total workforce. “We are not a services-for-the-sake of services player. We also do health checks on the (CA Tech) deployments and advise on new processes that the customers might require,” Darren Reid, Senior Vice-President (Services), CA Technologies, told
In India, the company saw good traction in the government and financial services market for the services business.
Scope in India
“We had stopped talking about it though we started the business 6-7 years ago. We let our partners talk. But we decided to relaunch the activity in 2011 and restarted the dialogue,” he said.
In India, it secured 2,000 contracts in India in a year. He, however, refused to divulge contributions from this arm, citing silent period. The company is slated to announce results in a few days.
SaaS-first products
He said there was a clear demand for cloud-ready products, forcing IT firms to come out with such products. “We have a SaaS-first product. Nimsoft is one such example,” he said. The company had acquired Nimsoft two years ago with an eye on the emerging business opportunity in the software-as-a-service area.
