To take stock of the commitment made by telecom operators to improve services including call drops in a 100-day plan, Telecom Minister (Independent charge) Manoj Sinha will meet the Chief Executive officers of the companies on November 1.
“The minister will meet the CEOs on call drop issue...we have held one meeting already and this (upcoming) meeting will be for stock taking and roadmap for the future,” JS Deepak, Secretary, Department of Telecom, told reporters here.
He said that according to TRAI figures, there has been a lot of improvement in the call drop situation.
In June, operators, including Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone India, had submitted a 100-day action plan on the strategy to address call drop issue. They had committed to set up 60,000 base stations as part of this action plan and invest ₹12,000 crore for the same.
In terms of technology, telcos had promised multiple actions and had said around 1.50 lakh towers would be automated. In return, the Centre had said it would enhance its ongoing work with local authorities and resident welfare associations to enable the erection of new towers.
