Capgemini India and NIIT Technologies are vying for a five-year e-governance project to modernise the technology infrastructure at City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) of Maharashtra, it is reliably learnt.
One of the two IT majors would eventually be selected as the systems integrator (SI) for implementing and maintaining SAP’s enterprise resources and planning (ERP) software, two officials in the know said.
CIDCO is a town development authority, which is fully owned by the Maharashtra Government. It is responsible for developing Navi Mumbai, one of the largest planned cities in the world. CIDCO is also the nodal agency for the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Capgemini, which is headquartered in Paris, and Noida-based NIIT Tech are in the fray as CIDCO had favourably evaluated their technical bids for the deal. The financial bids will be opened in the next few days, following which the deal would be given to the lowest bidder, sources said.
The selected party will be responsible for services such as decision support systems, facility management, instant messaging, business intelligence and others, as per the project’s Request for Proposal document, a copy of which was seen by Business Line .
Twelve years ago, the agency had first deployed SAP applications in the areas of finance, projects systems and material management, but with limited success.
“…some of the departments have been unable to use and benefit from it (SAP applications) as much, since CIDCO has special process requirements…thus, in-spite of an IT system implemented in CIDC, it still undertakes all its operational, logistics and maintenance processes manually,” the RFP said. The new ERP solution would cover CIDCO’s operations - land and estate management, human resources and finance and accounting.
In the last few years, entities promoted by the Maharashtra Government have been banking on automation and the use of business intelligence and data mining tools for increasing efficiency.
