Cisco has introduced the Cisco ASR 5500 platform, which it says is the foundation for a new generation of mobile Internet networks.
In a release, the company said that worldwide mobile network traffic is expected to increase nearly 19-fold between 2011 and 2016 and this platform is designed to meet the data requirements of that era.
The company said that the ASR 5500 is an elastic packet core solution that delivers a 10-times performance improvement in throughput. The platform also supports access via 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi.
