Google Plus on Tuesday set the stage for companies and brands to create their Web pages and accounts within the social networking site. The new feature ‘Google+ Pages' will allow organisations to connect with their customers, be added to the customers' circles and also spend time with them through options such as ‘hangout'.
Global business majors such as Macy's, Toyota, and Pepsi have already set up their pages on the social network. A Google spokesperson here said that even Indian companies such as Maruti and e-commerce site Fashion and You have joined. The idea is to differentiate individual accounts from brand accounts, the spokesperson said.
“For you and me, this means we can now hangout live with local bike shop or discuss our wardrobe with a favourite clothing line or follow a band on tour,” the company said in its official blogpost.
The search engine giant has snapped up 40 million users on Google+ since it launched the social networking site nearly four months back. But rival Facebook, which has been around longer, has over 800 million global users.
The new Google+ business pages will be accessible through the search engine as also from within the social networking service. “Just go to Google and search for + followed by the page you are interested in (+ Angry Birds)…We will take you to their Google+ page, and if you want, we will add them to your circles,” the social networking platform informed its users.
