India’s fourth largest PC vendor Acer, which largely addresses the consumer and SMB market segments, is bullish on convertible 2-in-1s and notebooks to drive growth for the company in FY2016.
The company’s consumer notebook portfolio includes products in prices ranging from ₹19,999 to ₹1,10,000.
Acer, on Tuesday, launched a new range of consumer notebooks, convertible 2-in-1s, all-in-ones and gaming monitors, which will be available from Wednesday.
“We are looking very seriously at our range of convertible 2-in-1s to drive growth for us over the next 12 months. We offer an entire range of screen sizes from the 10-inch Acer Aspire One launched in April to the 11-inch, 12.5-inch and 13.3-inch Aspire Switch series ranging upwards of ₹19,999 to ₹75,000. We are seeing great traction in 2-in-1s with large corporates buying in thousands,” S Rajendran, Chief Marketing Officer, Acer India, told BusinessLine in an exclusive interaction.
Acer staged a late entry into the all-in-one segment with the launch of two models in May; a category where Lenovo and HP have already established a strong presence over the last 24 months.
Matured segmentAcer’s all-in-one portfolio is priced between ₹24,999 and ₹45,000. Explaining the company’s late entry into the category, Rajendran said: “Until now, there was no price point sanity in the all-in-one category which was sold much below cost price. We waited until the industry matured to a particular price point to introduce the product range in India.” Acer is trying to increase its average selling price of consumer notebooks, which is currently at sub-₹30,000, by sharpening its engagement with three large format retailers – Vijay Sales, which operates in the north and west of India; Reliance Digital and Croma, which have a pan-India footprint of 150 and 70 plus stores respectively.
Expansion plansThe company plans to double its Acer branded stores from 200 to 400 in 12 months.
“Approximately, 2,25,000 units of consumer notebooks are sold every month, of which our share is below 10 per cent. Consumer notebooks constitute 35 per cent of the 4 million plus units of notebooks sold annually,” said Rajendran. The company raked in ₹3,962.70 crore in revenue for FY2015.
