Consumer electronics start-up launches Android tablet

Technopark-based Telmoco Development Labs, the State’s first incubated consumer electronics start-up, has come out with an Android tablet in its ‘Attitude’ series.

Called ‘Attitude Next 6339,’ the 7-inch tablet was launched at a function here on Tuesday.

Telmoco had launched its first product, Attitude Daksha, in April last, to compete with Aakash tablet computers.

Daksha has since sold over 2,500 pieces, said Nijesh C. R. and Aadith Bose, Directors, Telmoco.

“We are endeavouring to bring latest technological advancements to the product,” they added.

P. K. Kunhalikkutty, Minister for Industries and IT, unveiled the ‘Next 6339’ product by handing it over to Francis Mukkannikal, Director, MFJ Communications and Marketing. Priced at Rs 7,999, it would be available in over 400 retail stores in the State and over 100 online stores from May 26, said Nijesh.

Initially, the product will be available in the retail market in Kerala.

Later, the start-up plans to expand presence in other South Indian markets.

Present at the launch function were P. H. Kurian, Principal Secretary for IT; Girish Babu, chief executive, and M. Vasudevan, Senior Business Development Manager, Technopark; K. C. Chandrasekharan Nair, Secretary and Registrar, and Sreejith Srinivasan, Manager, Technology Business Incubator, Technopark.

Next 6339 is equipped with 2G voice calling facility; dual camera (0.3 VGA front camera, 2MP back camera); A-GPS; high-quality IPS clear view dynamic resolution screen; on-the-go FM radio, storage of 8GB, 512 MB RAM internal with micro SD and 32GB external) and a high-performance battery (5500 mAH, 4.2V).

It comes fully loaded with informative and entertaining apps, Nijesh added.

Next Education provides educational content from 6th to 10th grade of the Kerala State Syllabus in Maths, Science, Social Science and English.

F-Secure Corporation Finland provides anti-virus software for the tablet and Accel Frontline Services, warranty and service centres in India.

Set up last year, Telmoco has been associated with Salora International, a big distribution network. It works with e-Saksharatha Mission and also with a State-owned project for Attitude Daksha tablets.

The company stood in fourth position in the Asian Association of Business Incubation ranking 2012 from among 1,286 nominations.
