Chinese smartphone manufacturer Coolpad launched ‘Note 3’, its first fingerprint sensor-enabled smartphone, here on Friday. The model will be available exclusively on Amazon India from October 20 and is priced at Rs.8,999.
The sensor, created by FPC 1025, is placed at the back of the device and supports 360-degree finger rotation capability and a faster response time.
“The Indian consumer knows his smartphones well and to develop a successful product that is both robust and technically sound is imperative. However, it all boils down to the price of the product and we have decided to modify that too, as it is Coolpad’s philosophy to bring affordable technology to all,” said Johnson Luo, Vice-President, Coolpad Group.
The Note 3 sports a 5.5 inch HD (720x1280 pixel) screen and is powered by a 64-bit 1.3 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor with 3GB of RAM. It has 16 GB of in-built storage which is expandable up to 64 GB via a microSD card, a dual-SIM slot and supports 4G LTE, 3G and GSM network frequencies.
The phone features a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5 MP front camera, both possessing a CMOS image sensor for better image quality. It is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery. It will be available only in white for the time-being.
The company, while stating that it would invest over $300 million for manufacturing, research and development, and ID design purposes in India, has announced its partnership with Videocon for manufacturing its devices.
It expects to roll out half-a-million devices from its facility in Maharashtra and the first indigenously manufactured Coolpad phones will be available by the first quarter of the next financial year.
“India is a crucial market and we believe that we will learn a lot from our investments in the country which will affect the company and its business globally,” Luo added.
