Cyrus P. Mistry has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) with immediate effect and as Chairman-designate by the board of directors of TCS.
He would take over as Chairman from Ratan N. Tata on his retirement in December 2012, TCS said in a communication to the stock exchanges.
Cyrus Mistry is now a Director and Non-Executive Board Member in TCS and the post of Deputy Chairman appears to have been especially created for him before his elevation as Chairman of TCS.
In TCS after Ratan Tata as Chairman, S. Ramadorai occupies the next slot as Vice-Chairman in the Non-Executive Board. N. Chandrasekharan is the CEO and MD.
Cyrus Mistry is a graduate in Civil Engineering from Imperial College, UK and has an MSc in Management from London Business School. He joined the board of Tata Sons Ltd in 2006 and is now the Executive Deputy Chairman.
He is also Director of Tata Industries Ltd, Tata Teleservices Ltd, Tata Steel Ltd, Tata Motors Ltd and Tata Chemicals Ltd. He took over as Chairman of Tata Power Company Ltd from Ratan Tata yesterday.
