Educomp Solutions Ltd in partnership with Great Lakes Institute of Management will invest Rs 150 crore in setting up more campuses across the country as well as platforms for e-learning.
The tie-up is through Educomp's affiliate company Beacon. The campuses will come up in the next five years in Gurgaon, Mumbai and Eastern India.
E-learning centres with live coaching facilities in Great Lakes' designated centres are also being planned, said Mr Shantanu Prakash, Managing Director, Educomp.
“In Educomp, we already have models of e-learning and we would use one of those to reach out to the maximum number of students. E-learning can be used to bring down the cost of education for the huge middle class student population,” said Mr Prakash.
But, according to Dr Bala V Balachandran, Founder and Dean, Great Lakes, an e-learning programme through this partnership would still cost Rs 1 lakh. “The in-class on campus programmes of the institute would cost Rs 10 lakh while the e-learning programmes would be priced at Rs 1 lakh,” he said.
According to Dr Balachandran, the new post-graduate programmes being planned will be in subjects ranging from energy to services and technology to agri-management.
For the management courses, students will have to clear CAT or GRE exams, he added.
For its Gurgaon campus, Great Lakes will partner with the Institute of Energy Management and Research. Great Lakes has academic alliances with Stuart Graduate School of Business USA, Yale University USA and Nanyang Technical University Singapore.
