Telecom equipment maker Ericsson today announced that it has completed acquisition of North American Wi-Fi company BelAir Networks.
The development follows announcement made by Ericsson in February that it will acquire 100 per cent shares in BelAir.
BelAir has 120 employees and all of them will now be part of Ericsson group.
“By integrating BelAir Networks’ talented people and the new assets into Ericsson’s mobile infrastructure leadership, we will accelerate the integration of Wi-Fi and cellular technologies and strengthen our network offering,” Ericsson’s Executive Vice President and head of business unit Networks, Mr Johan Wibergh said in a statement.
Through this transaction, Ericsson gets carrier grade Wi-Fi portfolio, technological expertise, IPR, established customer contracts of BelAir.
Wi-Fi technology is an important part of the overall mobile broadband user experience and is rapidly becoming a standard feature in smartphones, PCs, tablets and in other consumer electronics devices.
BelAir provides both indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi systems.
