With an eye on the groceries pie, e-commerce firm Flipkart is planning to do more pilots, to test the waters. As it implements a maiden programme on groceries in Bengaluru, the firm is looking at replicating the same in some other cities before it goes live with the new vertical.
Anil Goteti, Head of Marketplace, Flipkart, on Tuesday, however, did not indicate any timeline for the launch of the vertical. Asked whether the firm would enter a space which is already crowded with niche players, he said the data and technological available with the firm would help it. “We will have a unique proposition to offer to our customers as we do with other verticals,” he said.
Addressing a press conference here, he claimed Flipkart has a registered customer base of 10 crore. “More people are coming online as they adopt to smartphones. We are targeting to bring in 50 crore more consumers on board.”
Responding to a query on whether the Goods and Services Tax would have an impact the firm and its consumers, he said prices will come down for consumers in the middle to long term, when vendors begin to pass on the benefits. Goteti, however, admitted that there were stock disruptions in the short term.
He refused to answer a query on whether Flipkart-Snapdeal merger, if it happened, would result in any overlaps on the two companies’ customer bases.
