A day after unveiling Galaxy Note II in Korea, Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of the smartphone in India.
The 5.5-inch phone that works on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Operating System will hit the market in a week. It is priced at Rs 39,900.
“India is one of the first markets to get the smartphone,” B.D. Park, President and Chief Executive Officer (South West Asia) of Samsung Electronics, said. Touted to be Samsung’s answer to Apple’s iPhone 5, the Note phone would hit key global markets such as Europe and the US in the next few weeks. The firm hopes that the Note family could contribute 10-15 per cent to its smartphone volumes this year.
The Korean phone major also showcased two smart Galaxy cameras that are slated to be launched in India before Diwali. It, however, evaded a question on the price tag for the cameras.
For geeks, the phone comes with 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, a 2 GB RAM, 3,100 mAh battery and a memory of 16 GB (expandable to 64 GB). It is equipped with an 8 megapixel rear and 1.9 megapixel front camera. The Galaxy cameras will have Android 4.1 OS capabilities, with access to 6 lakh applications. It, in fact, is a 3G device with an wi-fi option.
Asim Warsi, Vice-President (Marketing – Mobile Business), goes to town with the advanced S Pen and S Note, which he said, would offer enhanced user experience. “You just hover the pen over an email, image gallery or video files to get an instant preview without opening any of those,” he said. Warsi said S Pen could be a good opportunity for app developers to work on apps built on this functionality.
Windows 8 tab
Warsi said the company would come out with a tablet based on Windows 8 when the Operating System comes lives. “We will have a product based on that. We will come out with more details closer to the launch of Windows 8,” he added.
