NYSE-listed BPO service provider, Genpact has expanded its Netherlands operations.

The first BPO company to hit billion dollars in revenues has bagged two multi-million dollar outsourcing deals in the region.

Pharmaceutical major Merck, which operates a subsidiary called MSD, has outsourced its information centre services to Genpact. Information centre services include document processing for the pharma major.

For this, Genpact has set up a new team in Wormer that will support services for MSD in the Netherlands and other markets.

Similarly, it has bagged another multi-million dollar deal from Achmea, the largest insurance company in Netherlands to maintain and upgrade business intelligence software for the competency centre. Companies use business intelligence software to report, document and make decisions for their businesses.

For technology services, Genpact has consolidated its services centre in Wormer by merging the former Accounting Plaza ERP Services unit with its SAP consulting team in Rotterdam. Further, it will provide PeopleSoft (which is a software used by HR departments) support and consultancy to insurance company Nationale Nederlanden, part of ING.

With these kinds of deals, market watchers believe that Genpact is transitioning itself from a backend call centre to business functions such as HR, accounting, retail and others in the Dutch market.

Also, in April 2011, Genpact had acquired Accounting Plaza, a provider of finance and accounting (F&A), HR services and PeopleSoft ERP services to Ahold, a major international retailer, and other clients in the retail, wholesale, banking and healthcare industries for an undisclosed sum.

Growth opportunities

Pascal Henssen, senior vice-president and COO, Genpact Europe, said: “We see additional growth opportunities in the Dutch market as more European companies across multiple industries are beginning to realise that transforming their business processes results in business impact.”

Genpact does not disclose country specific workforce but out of 55,000 employees, it added 600 employees to its rolls with the acquisition of Accounting Plaza and has 15 software centres in Europe. venkatesh.ganesh@thehindu.co.in
