Having mastered the art of BPO business, the founder of Genpact Pramod Bhasin is now looking forward to invest in the healthcare sector.

Investment decisions are likely to be firmed up in the “next few months”.

Other sectors that have interested him include services, food and beverages and those “where he can add more value” or where the country has a natural advantage.

“… Will keep looking for investments in services, healthcare and areas where I can add value and also where India has some natural advantage,” Bhasin told

Business Line in an interview.

“We are looking at couple (of investments) right now in the healthcare sector. Hopefully, they will materialise in the next few months,” he added.

He, however, did not reveal details. But, indicated investments across ventures to be between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 2 crore. Investments are in his personal capacity.

Investments His last investment, made earlier this year, was an undisclosed sum in Kolkata-based Lexplosion Solutions Pvt Ltd, a legal and compliance management company.

Post his stepping down as the CEO of Genpact in mid-2011, Bhasin teamed up with Pia Singh, daughter of DLF Chairman KP Singh, for Skills Academy - a venture in the education and training sector.

So far 8-10 investments have been made. One such investment in the food and beverage sector include Chaipoint – a Bangalore-based company that focuses on catering tea; and in the services sector it includes PeopleStrong – an HR firm. Other investments include a foray into digital publishing services and so on.

While present rules and regulations restrict companies being floated for funding start-ups, Bhasin claims that he either brings in his own corpus or he “reaches out to people” when he comes across an interesting idea.

“Right now in India you become a non-banking financial company if investments are made through a company. So, most investments are on private capacity. If I could, I would have invested through a company,” he said.

The other manner is through the Indian Angel Network. Some 4 -5 investments have already been made under this model.

Government project Meanwhile, Bhasin said that he was willing to work on Government projects that include re-engineering existing systems — such as legal processes — or re-establishing public distribution system. However, there are no such projects he is working on at the moment.

“Unfortunately, that (a government project) has yet not come up. But, there are huge areas where Government processes can be re-engineered,” he added.
