Technopark-Thiruvananthapuram, in association with the Group of Technology Companies, conducted a roadshow for Technopark-Kollam, its first venture at neighbouring Kollam, as part of the hub-and-spoke model of expansion in the State.
Titled Technopark-Kollam — Putting Kollam on the Global IT Map, the roadshow sought to unveil the completed phase-1 of the IT building that offers one lakh sq ft of built-up space with plug-and-play facilities to investors.
Technopark-Kollam is being developed on 40 acres of Special Economic Zone land as a modern and global-standard IT park in Kundara on the banks of the scenic Ashtamudi Lake.
It was in February that Technopark-Kollam was inaugurated and the foundation stone for the first IT building laid.
According to the master plan, five lakh sq.ft with plug-and-play facilities was planned. One lakh sq ft of that is now ready for occupation in the initial phase.
The IT building has been developed incorporating the ‘green building' concept and has a futuristic design, representing a clear distinction from conventional construction.
WATERWAY OPTION
The remaining land will be allotted to IT/ITES companies and IT infrastructure developers as developed plots.
The park will have two million sq ft of total built-up space when fully complete and will provide employment to an estimated around 15,000 professionals.
This is also the first IT park in the State that will have a mode of water transportation to Kollam city and a boat jetty has been completed.
According to Mr Mervin Alexander, Chief Executive Officer, Technopark, the objective of the roadshow was to showcase the first phase to potential investors comprising Chief Executive Officers of Technopark companies looking at expanding operations across the State and other investors.

“We have already received enquiries from a few US-based companies and we are hopeful that the first phase would be fully operational by April next,” he added.
The State Public Works Department has completed the widening and development of the road to the park. Work on canal embankment, water supply and sewage treatment plant and a 110-KV substation has too has been completed.
The State Government had sanctioned Rs 5.95 crore for developing the road infrastructure.
This apart, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development has sanctioned Rs 63 crore for the development of the park under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund scheme.
The estimated cost of developing the IT building is Rs 25 crore, Mr Alexander said.
