Google will set up Google Business Groups (GBGs) in India to spread the word on Web technologies that help small and medium businesses go online.
These groups, completely independent from Google, will be set up in 30 Indian cities.
“We’ve heard a lot of business owners say they would like to learn about what they should be doing online. Sometimes the most useful thing is to hear it from someone that’s doing it right,” Sunil Rao, Country Head-Outreach Programs of Google, said, announcing the programme in the site’s blog.
Those who have already tested and used such technologies could become a GBG Manager and coordinate the GBG activities in that particular city.
Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Chandigarh, Mysore, Hubli, Ahmedabad, Madurai, Coimbatore, Agra and Pune are among the 30 locations where the GBGs are coming up.
“You will meet people in your community and learn together how to use Web technologies for your business,” he said.
GBGs organise social gatherings, workshops, online hangouts, larger events and other activities where like-minded business professionals can connect, he said.
