Search engine major Google on Monday celebrated the 407th birth anniversary of painter Rembrandt. The doodle carries a self-portrait of the painter titled ‘Self Portrait with Beret and Turned Up Collar’.
Rembrandt or Rembrandt van Rijn was one of the greatest painters to come out of Europe.
Born in 1606 in the Netherlands (then known as the Dutch Republic), he joined the University of Leinden and apprenticed with Jacob van Swanenburgh. His successes came after he moved to Amsterdam in 1631 and became a portraitist. He died on October 4, 1669 in Amsterdam.
Some of the famous paintings by Rembrandt include ‘Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp’ (1632), ‘Portrait of the Shipbuilder Jan Rijcksen and his wife’ (1633), ‘Belshazzar’s Feast’ (1635), ‘Night Watch’ (1642) and ‘Syndics of the Drapers’ Guild’ (1662).
