Search engine giant Google said that its Chromebook, a laptop-like device which runs Google's Chrome OS (not to be confused with the Chrome browser) will be available in India in 2012.
Addressing the media, Mr Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice-President, Chrome and Apps for Google, said, “We have noted that Chrome is very popular on laptops. That is why, we decided to create a laptop.”
The Chromebook began shipping worldwide in June this year and is made by companies such as Acer and Samsung. The product is not available in stores even in the US, but one can buy it from Amazon.com.
Prices range from $349 (Rs 17,694) for an Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook to $499.99 (Rs 25,350) for a Samsung Series 5 3G 12.1-inch Chromebook.
Discussing Google Buzz, the company's social networking attempt launched in February 2010 and was shut down in October this year, he said that without Google Buzz, there would have been no Google Plus.
“We learnt about the browser by building a toolbar before we built the Chrome browser. With Google Buzz, we had privacy issues, but we learnt from that.” He said that if the company had not learnt from Google Buzz, it might have committed the same mistakes with Google Plus.
