If it is Independence Day, can the customary Google doodle be far behind?
Search-engine major, Google, on Friday commemorated India's 68th Independence Day with doodle.
The doodle features the Indian postal stamp released when the country got independence from British Raj in 1947. The stamp also has an image of the Indian national flag.
First postal stamp
According to sources, the first postal stamp in independent India was issued on November 21, 1947. It depicted the tricolour and carried the patriotic slogan of 'Jai Hind'.
Priced at three-and-a-half annas, the stamp was then used mainly for foreign correspondence.
Apart from the stamp, the word Google is also represented in the colours of the Indian flag. While the G is in saffron, the stamp and a post mark - marked New Delhi - represent the two Os. The remaining three letters G, L and E are in green.
