Google has announced Summer of Code programme, offering a stipend to university students to write code for open source projects. This programme covers a period of three months.
“Accepted students are paired with a mentor from the participating projects, gaining exposure to real-world software development and the opportunity for future employment in areas related to their academic pursuits. Best of all, more source code is created and released for the use and benefit of all,” the search engine firm said.
Google has interacted with open source community to list out project ideas that can be pursued by students. Students should consult manual for suggestions on how to write a quality proposal that will grab the attention of the mentoring organisations. Multiple proposals are allowed but we highly recommend focusing on quality over quantity. The last date to submit proposals is April 6.
