Got a cyber complaint? Send it to IT Principal Secretaries

Do you have a complaint or grievance related to any cyber offence? You do not need to go to the police directly. Instead, file a complaint with the Principal Secretary (IT, Government of Andhra Pradesh).

Under the Information Technology Act, 2000, IT Departments of respective States will act as Adjudicating Officer for the Cyber Appellate Tribunal set up by the Union Government. .

“The Adjudicating Officers will be responsible for conducting field enquiries in cyber crimes registered under the Act,” Ms K. Ratna Prabha, Principal Secretary (IT and Communications Department), told

Business Line .

The tribunal has been set up under the aegis of Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA). The tribunal consists of one Presiding Officer, who is qualified to be a Judge of a High Court or is or has been a member of the Indian Legal Service.

The tribunal will have powers of a civil court under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908. But it is guided by the principles of natural justice and, subject to the other provisions of this Act . Justice Rajesh Tandon is the chairperson and Mr R.K. Uppal, Registrar of the Delhi-based tribunal.

State level

At the State level, Adjudicating Officers would attend to the complaints. “People can directly approach the Officer with their complaints. The Officer would direct the police to investigate,” she said.

The list of cyber crimes that fall under Tribunal's purview included phishing, cyber frauds, malware, denial of service, cyber espionage, identity theft, data theft and mobile device attacks.

On Monday, the State Government received video conferencing equipment to connect with the tribunal's Delhi office.
