GSM operators add 1.49 million users in July

The GSM operators have added a meagre 1.49 million subscribers in July, taking their total user base to 672.63 million, with Aircel topping the charts.

This was a 0.22 per cent increase from the previous month, according to data released by the Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI).

In comparison, GSM operators had added 3.57 million subscribers in June.

Aircel added 7,55,523 users, the highest among the GSM operators, taking its total to 61.73 million. The company ranked fifth among the GSM operators with a 9.18 per cent market share.

Bharti Airteladded 476,593 subscribers. With a total of 191.39 million users, the New Delhi-based firm maintained its leadership position with a 28.45 per cent market share.

However, Vodafone India, lost 610,694 users during the month, taking its total to 154.42 million. The Mumbai-based operator had a market share of 22.96 per cent, and ranked third among the GSM operators.

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) lost 244,505 users during the month. The company with operations in just two circles – Mumbai and Delhi – had a total of 4.10 million users as of July end.

Idea Cellular, an Aditya Birla Group company, added 300,099 users on its network, taking the total to 125.27 million users. The service provider had a market share of 18.62 per cent.

Uninor added 463,431 users taking its total to 32.76 million, while Videocon added 353,787 users during the month under review.
