India’s GSM operators have added a total of 4.85 million subscribers in July, a 0.66 per cent rise from the previous month, taking their total user base to 744.42 million. Vodafone India topped the charts with the maximum subscriber addition of 1.3 million new users.
Vodafone India, a subsidiary of British telecom major Vodafone Group, total user base as of July-end stood at 171.27 million.
The Mumbai-based company garnered a market share of 23.01 per cent during the reporting month, according to data released by industry body Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI).
Idea Cellular followed Vodafone India in subscriber addition, with the company adding 1.11 million users during the month. The Aditya Birla group company garnered a total of 140.12 million users, with an 18.82 per cent market share, during the month.
Aircel, in which Malaysian telecom major Maxis Bhd holds a majority stake, added 917,715 users during the month. The company had a total of 73.99 million subscribers, with a 9.94 per cent market share, COAI data showed.
Uninor, the Indian arm of Norwegian telecom giant Telenor, added 853,873 users during the month. The operator’s total subscriber base stood at 40.17 million users as of July-end.
Bharti Airtel, the country’s largest operator by revenue and subscribers, added 510,592 users during the month, increasing its total user base to 209.76 million. However, the New Delhi-based operator maintained its leadership position with a 28.18 per cent market share.
Videocon added 87,436 users, taking its total user base to 5.64 million, while state-owned MTNL added 7,704 new subscribers taking its total user base to 3.28 million.
