HCL Infosystems Ltd said it has signed a business transfer agreement for acquiring Edurix Business of designing and implementing content for the K-12 education segment, it informed the Bombay Stock Exchange on Monday.
Edurix Business is part of Attano Media and Education Private Ltd that provides contents through digital medium to students.
Education is one of the focused areas the company is looking at and has launched products dedicated for students, apart from home and office users. Analysts say that the company is looking at creating pocket-friendly products that cater to various segments of consumers, especially students.
For example, recently it launched devices including the Beanstalk range of all-in-one PCs and Smart Series 1044 laptop that targets tier-II and -III segment of consumers with price starting at Rs 20,000.
Tablets for students
HCL Infosystems would also look at introducing tablets for students. Mr Princy Bhatnagar, Vice-President and Head Consumer Computing, has recently also said that education through tablets would be one of its parts to grow in this sector.
He said by 2016, sixty per cent of the computer market would be driven by low-cost products and the company look forward to launching such products. Right now, it offers tablets priced between Rs 7,999 and Rs 11,000.
To focus through dedicated means, its board of directors had last week also approved transfer of computing products manufacturing and channel business to a wholly owned subsidiary.
The board had also approved Mr Ajai Chowdhry’s stepping down from position of Director.
