Multinational conglomerate Honeywell has launched the second phase of its Smart Building Score, a tool that grades buildings based on the use of technologies intended to make them green, safe, and productive.

“Two thousand buildings in top cities figured in last year’s survey. Though we have not tweaked the tool much, we have added elements of cyber security and data analytics,” said Priyanshu Singh, Country Manager, Honeywell Building Solutions India.

The tool, which is free of cost, evaluates 15 technology parameters that contribute to making the building green, safe and productive. These include flexible cooling, heating, power supply, wired communication, surveillance and use of natural resources among others.

Last year’s edition of the Smart Building Score had revealed that most buildings in India fared low on the smartness quotient.

Airports and hotels had topped the index.

The national average for buildings stood at a paltry 33, while scores for buildings in the education and residential space were even lower.

Most buildings scored high on green elements but low on safety.

Honeywell aims to establish the score as an industry benchmark for buildings, given the government’s thrust for smart cities.

The tool has also been launched in the US, West Asia and China. “Interestingly, in China, buildings have scored very high compared to India. The average score of a building in China is higher than the top score in India,” Singh added.
