You can now pay electricity bills in Tamil Nadu through the Paytm and Paytm Lite apps.
How to pay through the Paytm app:
Once you open the Paytm app, click on the Electricity icon. You will be taken to a page that will have two tabs - Electricity Boards and Apartments. Click on the Electricity Boards. You will get a dropdown of all the states. Select Tamil Nadu. It will now show the electricity board's name 'Tamil Nadu Electricity Board'
You will now have to key in your Consumer Number. You have to enter your Consumer Number starting with Region Code, followed by Section, Distribution and Service Number and click on Proceed. Once you do it, Paytm will fetch your details, which may take a minute or two. This will include your name, due date, bill number, bill date, bill period and the due amount.
If you have already paid, you will get a note saying the bill has been paid and that there are no dues.
You can use the 'Fast Forward' option and click on Proceed to Pay, which will immediately pay from your Paytm wallet balance. You can apply one of the listed promo codes to avail of the discounts.
If you don't select the Fast Forward option, it will take you to the Paytm login page. Once you key in the details, you will get an one-time password (OTP).
The next screen will give you options to pay from Paytm (again), debit card, credit card or net banking.
The rest of the process is the same as in other payments. You will have to key in the credit card or debit card details, or in the case of netbanking, log in to your bank account and complete the process.
As of today, there is no option to pay through the United Payments Interface (UPI)
How to pay using Apartments list:
Log in to the Paytm app. Once you click the Electricity option, click on the Apartments tab. At present, it is restricted to the 11 apartments listed. More will be added soon. You will now be asked to key in your mobile number. Paytm will now find out whether there are any dues. If there are dues, you will have to go through the previous process.
