The Malaysian promoter of Aircel, Maxis Communications has decided against pumping additional funds into the company. Aircel is weighing various options, if you are an Aircel user and don’t want to get caught without a network again, you can port out to any of the operators like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, BSNL or RJio.
For porting, you have to send an SMS to 1900 with the word Port followed by your mobile number. It will be PORT xxxxxxxxxx. This port message will go to Aircel. You will now get a confirmation message from Aircel with a porting code.
You must visit the nearest dealer or office of the operator you wish to port your connection to. If you want to port to a BSNL number, you have to visit one of their customer care centres. You have to submit the necessary documents like address and ID proof with a photograph. You may also have to submit your Aadhaar.
The new operator will give you a new SIM card, which you must insert only after the porting is complete. The code you have received is valid for 15 days. The porting should happen within a week. At the most you it may take 10 days.
How will you know porting is successful
After a few days you will lose the network signal in your Aircel SIM. This means that your porting is successful with the other operator. Remove the Aircel SIM and insert the SIM given by the new operator. You will have to follow the instructions in the SIM card pack to activate the connection. The process may differ from operator to operator.
