Reports of HP's plan to cut about 10 per cent or about 30,000 employees have become a subject of discussion among HP staffers in India.
Though the reports have not indicated any break-up of layoffs in different geographies, staff have quickly surfed Web reports to check what was in store for them.
They have a reason. HP has the second largest employee base here in India. The company, however, refused to give the exact number of its employee base in India.
“As a matter of policy, HP does not comment on rumours or speculation nor disclose employee headcount by location,” a HP spokesperson said, responding to likely impact of the reported move on India.
Netizens abuzz
Social networking sites are abuzz with the layoff news. While giving links on the layoff reports, Tweets wondered how many people would be sacked in respective geographies.“Bizarre day in tech: Facebook IPO at absurd $100 billion valuation, while HP to lay off 25000 or more,” a tweet said.
