Godrej Consumer Products has transformed itself into a globally integrated enterprise harnessing Big Data insights to drive efficiency and consistency across the organisation.

Big Data has been termed the next frontier for innovation, competition, and productivity. It can generate value, and for a corporate to use Big Data to the maximum, it could increase operating margins by more than 60 per cent.

With Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) expanding its operations into Asia, Africa, Middle-East and Latin America through acquisitions over the last few years, it has resulted in disparate and inconsistent technology and processes in many areas.

The company realised it needed a holistic approach of IT enablement in the supply chain management. IBM helped GCPL deploy IT solutions in its supply chain, that aims to drive efficiency, gain better visibility, improve controls and performance across geographies.

As Subrata Dey, Executive Vice President, IT, GCPL said, “Our business has been growing and for better agility and control, we needed a comprehensive supply chain solution.” Given the better stock placements, Godrej has said it would now be able to provide its customers greater product variety at a lower cost.

GCPL has effectively integrated the company’s operations centres located in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Argentina, Indonesia and South Africa, in a trend that has improved agility, said Rakesh Sinha, Chief Operating Officer, GCPL.

IBM worked with GCPL and looked at the company’s inventory and logistics perspective across multiple locations and brands.
