IBM has implemented social business solutions for the National Capital Territory of Delhi, a move that will help it improve operational efficiency.

This would also help the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) to reduce the cost and time involved in maintaining and updating the Web sites, Himanshu Goyal, country manager, IBM Collaboration Solutions, said.

“We are engaged with other government departments for similar engagements and would be entering into similar tie-ups whenever an opportunity arises,” Goyal said, without providing further details.

“We are seeing a tremendous interest from the public sector in using social media to make the government more accessible to citizens by engaging them in interactive dialogues,” he added.

GNCTD had selected IBM’s business partner Vyam Technologies through a tender process to deploy, manage and support the solution.

GNCTD has about 130 departments, including the Department of IT (DoIT), with Web sites hosted either by the National Informatics Centre or a third-party vendor. There had been challenges in content consistency when updating or maintaining the sites, leading to legal and compliance risk issues.

This would be taken care of by implementation of the software and centralisation of the websites.
