IBM launches entry-level cloud solution

IBM has launched its IBM Smart Cloud Entry solution in India. The solution is aimed at companies which already have a virtualised environment but are hesitant to go in for a full-blown cloud computing solution.

“Any company can use this solution. Even a large bank like SBI can be a customer. We define it as the pathway to the ultimate,” said Mr Rahul Bindal, Vice-President with IBM.

Discussing the advantages of cloud, Mr Bindal said, “Everybody is looking at rapid deployment and cost containment. Cloud computing can address the problems faced by the business and the industry."

Discussing the cost savings, Mr Bindal said that IBM was of the opinion that solutions from the company would be 50 per cent cheaper than offerings from its competitors.

Discussing the issue of lock in — which involves a vendor selling his solution to a user company and ensuring that the user cannot shift due to compatibility issues — he said that he did not see this as a problem. “I don't think that it's too difficult to migrate from vendor to vendor.”
