GSM operator Idea Cellular has agreed to further enhance capacity by providing over 230 per cent additional capacity to Reliance Jio Infocomm. The capacity addition would be both for access and long distance interconnection, allowing two-way calling between the networks.
The Aditya Birla group firm has now provisioned 1,865 ports for access, from the 565 earlier. Simultaneously, the National Long Distance (NLD) capacity is also being expanded by nearly 50 per cent, Idea Cellular said in a statement.
With this capacity expansion, more than 2,100 ports will now be available for traffic between Idea and Jio, allowing sufficient buffer for the future.
“Idea is committed to ensure superior quality of service for its customers, and will continue to engage and expand capacity for the new operator to allow seamless traffic flow between the networks,” it added.
Earlier Idea Cellular had said that it is releasing additional interconnections to support 6-7 million Reliance Jio subscribers. Airtel had said that it will also increase interconnection to support 15 million subscribers.
Earlier on September 15, Vodafone India said it has decided to increase the points of interconnect (POIs) with Reliance Jio three-fold.
