Aditya Birla-controlled Idea Cellular, one of the largest telecom operators in the country, on Thursday announced the roll out of 3G services on its own network in Kolkata metro.

Kolkata and Bengal are considered as separate circles in telecom parlance.

Services are being rolled out on a 2100 MHz spectrum band, that the telco has acquired through auction earlier this year, the company said on a release.

3G services on its own network will be rolled out in a phased manner. This apart, the company will continue with its intra-circle roaming (ICR) pacts in those circles where it does not have 3G services on its own network.

At present, it has 3G services across 13 telecom services; and nine ICR pacts.

By the end of FY16, Idea will have a network of 7400 2G cell sites in the state, in addition to 1300 3G sites in Kolkata metro.
