Will launch more brands for online platform

TI Cycles of India will launch more bicycles on e-commerce-only platform in another two months. This comes as a result of rising volumes in e-commerce platform, said company official.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the launch of amateur cycling championship in Chennai, Kailash S, Head, Marketing, TI Cycles of India, said a separate portfolio for e-commerce sales under three brands Mach City, Roadeo and Hercules will be launched in couple of months.

Currently, the company sells only ‘Brooks’ brand of cycles online. “But with volumes increasing we wanted to give e-commerce segment a push,” he added. The company sold 1,000 bicycles last month alone.

The company has a presence in 40 cities through e-commerce. These are also the regions where the company has its retail footprint as it made e-commerce servicing such as assembly and delivery easier. “But now we want to expand on online presence, beyond the cities with our retail presence,” said Kailash. So TI Cycles decided to assemble the products 95 per cent except the pedal and handle, very similar to how ‘Brooks’ brand is sold online. “Consumers can assemble the rest with ease through our videos,” Kailash said.

Talking about the cycle market in India, Kailash says the company is seeing constant rise in the number of people availing performance cycles like Montra, which is used by professionals and accounts for about 60 per cent of the total cycle business.

The company enjoys a market share of 45 per cent in performance bicycle segment. It sold 20,000 Montra bicycles in 2016 as opposed to 10,000 in 2015. “We expect to sell 45,000 cycles this year,” Kailash added. The turnover for TI Cycles was ₹1,350 crore last fiscal.
