With the rapid growth of mobile telephony and expansion of verticals such as e-commerce, travel and hospitality in the Internet space, Internet users are expected to reach 730 million by 2020.
And 75 per cent of the new internet user growth would come from the rural areas, a report on 'The future of Internet in India' by Nasscom and Akamai Technologies said here on Wednesday.
According to the report, 70 per cent of e-commerce transactions are also expected to happen via mobile, it said.
"The rapid growth of the internet and its expansion into verticals including e-commerce, travel and hospitality, public sector, financial technology and media is a clear indication of the state of things to come," R Chandrashekhar, President, Nasscom, said.
