Infosys has started a development centre within the company to train its current and prospective employees on cloud computing technologies.
This line of business started last fiscal, currently trains 3,000 of its employees who work on cloud computing-related technologies. It has the capacity to train 5,000 employees in a year.
Employees will be trained on technologies such as big data, virtualisation and new ways of coding for companies wanting to shift from mainframe systems to the cloud. Infosys is looking to train system architects and software engineers in Java and Hadoop technologies.
Eyes new clients
This, according to Infosys officials, would give them a stronger case of getting additional outsourcing work from existing customers such as Goldman Sachs, BP and BT Group and new clients too.
“We are training software professionals to be the architects of the future,” Mr Vishnu Bhat, VP and Global Head- Cloud, told Business Line .
Currently, the cloud practice of Infosys is working on 135 projects, according to Mr Bhat. Cloud is a key area of focus in the Infosys 3.0 strategy that its CEO, Mr S.D. Shibulal, has envisioned, according to industry watchers.
“In our discussions with clients, we are increasingly hearing about re-architecting legacy IT systems to the cloud, due to its inherent benefits,” said Mr Bhat.
Revenue target
The cloud business is a part of the products and platforms business and in FY 2012, it contributed about 6 per cent of Infosys revenues. The company plans to take this to 30 per cent going ahead, according to Mr Shibulal.
