Infosys has said that it will go ahead with its hiring plans and continue on its existing strategy, in the aftermath of Vishal Sikka resigning from the CEO position.
Earlier in the year, Sikka had said that it will look at a hiring plan that would look at a mix of local (US) and India hiring.
In line with this, Infosys announced its intent to hire 10,000 employees in the US by 2020. Additionally, the company said that it will continue on its plans to hire 20,000 in India. In response to an email query, an Infosys spokesperson said that the company is on track and will hire as per plan.
This news could soothe the nerves of existing and potential employees who have been anxious since Sikka resigned. Recently, then Infosys COO, UB Pravin Rao, had said that last year the company had recruited more than 20,000 and this year it is likely to recruit similar numbers. Infosys added that in the first half on the 2017-18 financial year, Infosys said that it will be recruiting around 10,000.
Indian IT companies, like Infosys, so far have been relying on hiring in India and placing them at clients’ locations in the US. With recent immigration-related changes, heralded by US President Donald Trump, Indian companies are forced to hire more in the US.
While the hiring numbers seem to be intact, industry watchers estimate that the company has been seeing a high attrition, which stood at 21 per cent, when compared with the last 12 months.
This, coupled with illegal terminations of engineers, most of them in the age bracket of 35 and above, have been brought to the attention of local governments across the country, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra.
Sanjay Padode, Secretary, Centre for Developmental Education, IFIM Institutions, said the impact on hiring policy would depend on which way the management chooses to steer the company.
