Infosys, while focusing on a ‘renew and new’ strategy, will be addressing a third key element: transforming the mindset and work culture of its employees.
In other words, while looking to enter into newer services as well as restructure existing ones -- apart from eyeing acquisitions in under penetrated geographies and verticals – the company will also be focusing on how to change the way its employees think and work.
Completing four months as CEO as of December 1, Vishal Sikka said while most businesses and organisations including Infosys are looking to transform themselves in a rapidly changing world moving towards digital, very few have addressed the education and culture of the company.
Addressing analysts at the company’s largest campus in Hinjewadi Phase II, Pune, Sikka said, “When a company has to go through a fundamental transformation, the workforce has to be transformed by learning and re-educating. This applies to our company too. We cascade this strategy into everything that we do at Infosys. We are renewing education and the way we train our employees. And are focussing heavily on connectedness - establishing a massive, deep connect with our employees as a core enabling capability for our company.”
Citing examples of work done by Infoscions in the Renew and New spaces over the last four months since he took over as CEO, Sikka said some of the most exciting work is being done by Infy’s 10,000-Product Engineering and Design team involved with the integration of the physical and digital worlds. “The team has designed huge oil rigs with sensors integrated into it. This is an example of software and hardware design coming together which creates a huge opportunity for us to simplify a customer’s product lifecycle management process. We can do this by creating a software platform for an integrated management of physical devices when they go into production. The team is also building a digital oil field for clients that provides information on oil capacity and how much oil is left in the field.”
Some of the other solutions built by the teams are for apparel/footwear manufacturers, where the company is using design thinking to help them come up with new business models, creating opportunities for mass customisation and also creating the design of wearables that goes into apparels.
Big data & analyticsInfosys has already done 45 projects in the area of Big Data and Analytics, using its Infosys Information Platform launched a few months ago. “We have helped one of our clients predict the propensity to buy from their existing customer base. For another large ATM operator, we helped detect the likely failure of their ATMs one week in advance within 3.6 seconds. This helps the operator reduce costs drastically in scheduling their maintenance crews,” said Sikka.
