Nokia India has announced the launch of an insurance cover for consumers on purchase of its Lumia devices. The scheme was introduced in partnership with New India Assurance Company Ltd.
T.S.Sridhar, Director – South (Markets), Nokia India, said the plan provides Nokia consumers an affordable and comprehensive handset insurance plan to safeguard them against the risk of mobile handset loss and damage.
It is estimated that 43 per cent of mobile users in the country are losing handsets in various ways. The insurance plan has a premium of just 1.25 per cent of the purchased handsets value, starting with a minimum premium amount of Rs 50, he said.
Sridhar, who was here in connection with the launch of Nokia Lumia range in Kerala, said that the insurance cover is available on all Nokia Lumia and other devices, purchased through Nokia Priority stores in over 10 cites and towns across the State.
The company has also introduced Jet App, the country’s first native airline mobile application through Lumia devices in association with Jet Airways. This application allows customers to effortlessly book tickets, check flight status, manage their Jet Privilege account and get special offers, he said.
Referring to mobile phone market in India, he said that the market size last year was 185.2 million units. Of this, the share of smartphones was 10 per cent. With consumers looking for new products, the industry is expecting a 30 per cent growth in the smart phone category by 2015.
Globally, the total sales of mobile handsets were 1.6 billion with 46 per cent of them smartphones. The US is the biggest market with a contribution of 29 per cent market share followed by China and India, he added.
