The information technology industry in Andhra Pradesh has crossed the turnover of Rs 53,246 crore in 2012, crossing the Rs 50,000-crore mark for the first time, showing a growth rate of 16 per cent. Of this, exports contributed 76 per cent (Rs 40,646 crore), with the balance coming from domestic market.

The State contributes 12 per cent to nation’s overall IT and ITES exports, making it the fourth largest IT player in the country.

Direct employment by the IT and IT-enabled services in the State has crossed three lakh-mark, again a first. The industry provides jobs to 13.3 lakh people, including 10.12 lakh indirect jobs. IT exports had contributed 38 per cent to State’s overall exports.

“The IT Industry is well-positioned to become a leader. It has got good infrastructure, talent and a good business eco-system,” V Rajanna, President of ITsAP (IT and ITES industry association of Andhra Pradesh), said in a statement on Wednesday.

AP, and Hyderabad in particular, has incredible infrastructure - be it the quality of roads, airport, schooling, colleges, theatres, or shopping malls - Hyderabad has it all. The Metro Rail System is coming along rapidly, and is expected to provide commuters with a long-awaited respite from road congestion.

He said the State needs to go for improved and more forceful marketing to invite more investments. “Given the increasing competition amongst various states to attract investors, we need to pursue investment opportunities more aggressively than ever before,” he said.
