Infosys Founder NR Narayana Murthy said all is well between him and Chairman Nandan Nilekani.
“Absolutely, all is well. Remember, in my speech with the investors, I said now that we have Nandan as the chairman, we can all sleep well,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Infosys Prize for 2017-18.
Murthy also added that Nilekani’s strengths, such as his organisational prowess, and simplification of complex ideas will be very handy for Infosys. “There were lots of complexities and, therefore, he has his hands full,” Murthy said.
His remarks come three weeks after Nilekani, at the second-quarter results, gave a clean chit to the investigation into lapses in corporate governance (as a result of the $200 million acquisition of Panaya) under former CEO Vishal Sikka and the Board.
Subsequently, after the departure of Sikka , Nilekani was brought in to investigate these matters and also scout for a new CEO.
Murthy, in a statement, had expressed disappointment that none of the questions raised by him on “poor governance” had been answered transparently by the company’s board.
Murthy also added that since Nilekani was a good CEO himself, there is no need to give him advice.
“Let’s leave it to him and let’s all keep quiet, so that he can do his job well,” he added. This comes in the backdrop of Infosys and search firm Egon Zehnder reaching out to former Infoscions to accept the top job.
One of them Ashok Vemuri, has expressed his unwillingness to take the job.
