A widespread outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of Amazon Inc’s most popular cloud services, impacted a host of internet services on Tuesday, as per reports.

AWS had suffered a widespread outage Tuesday night causing higher loading times or failures for a significant part of the internet.

The tech giant had first addressed the issue on its AWS status dashboard at 11:07 pm IST on Tuesday.

“We are seeing impact to multiple AWS APIs in the US-EAST-1 Region. This issue is also affecting some of our monitoring and incident response tooling, which is delaying our ability to provide updates. We have identified the root cause and are actively working towards recovery,” it had said.

The outage was limited to its US-EAST 1 region, so not all users may have been affected by the outage directly. According to Downdetector, a service that tracks internet outages, a host of services including popular streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and Roku, platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and gaming services such as Fortnite, Minecraft and PlayStation network were affected.

It also impacted Amazo’s own services including Alexa and Ring.

Amazon warehouse and delivery workers, along with drivers for Amazon’s Flex service, took to Reddit stating that they could not access the Flex app or the AtoZ app that helps them with deliveries, making it impossible to scan packages or access delivery routes, as noted by a CNBC report.

“The root cause of this issue is an impairment of several network devices in the US-EAST-1 Region,” it had said.

At 4:33 am IST (3:03 PM PST), it said, “Many services have already recovered, however we are working towards full recovery across services.”

Services like SSO, Connect, API Gateway, ECS/Fargate, and EventBridge were still experiencing impact.

“With the network device issues resolved, we are now working towards recovery of any impaired services,” it had said at around 6:05 am IST (4:35 PM PST).
