Management reshuffle at Cognizant

IT services firm Cognizant Technology Solutions has announced changes in its senior-level management.

Rajeev Mehta has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer, IT Services.

He was previously the company’s Group Chief Executive – Industries and Markets.

R. Chandrasekaran, earlier the Group Chief Executive – Technology and Operations, has been appointed Executive Vice Chairman, Cognizant India.

These changes, effective December 4, come at a time when clients in the US and Europe are spending more on IT services.

Faster growth

In the last few quarters, Nasdaq-listed Cognizant, with large development centres in India, has been growing faster than its top Indian competitors.

For the current fiscal, the company is expected to report revenue of at least $8.84 billion, up 20.3 per cent compared to the previous year.

According to a Cognizant spokesperson, the changes are to sharpen focus on mindshare, market share, delivery excellence, business performance management and organisation and people.

Chandrasekaran, 56, will continue to be an Executive Officer and a core member of the leadership team.

He will devote more time to building client relations, work closer with industry bodies such as NASSCOM and CII, enhance brand equity through public relations in India, and strengthen broad business relationships and technology/delivery thought leadership.

These responsibilities are the culmination of a transition from his P&L responsibilities over the past few quarters, said the spokesperson.

Sumithra Gomatam, Debashis Chatterjee and Allen Shaheen will assume new responsibilities in the place of Chandrasekaran and report to Rajeev Mehta.

Gomatam will be President, Industry Solutions and Chatterjee, President, Technology Solutions.

Shaheen will continue to be responsible for horizontal practices in Europe, and for oversight of the integration of six companies of the C1 Group.

In addition, he will assume leadership of EAS and QE&A teams outside of India, the spokesperson said.

Krish Venkat will be President, Healthcare & Life Sciences; Prasad Chintamaneni, President, Banking and Financial Services; and D.K. Sinha, President, Client Services, a new role.

EVP Promotions Cognizant also announced promotions to EVP for senior leaders. — Mahesh Venkateswaran (Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud), Kalyan Mohan (Emerging Business Accelerators), Srinivasan Veeraraghavachary (Products and Resources covering Manufacturing, Retail, Consumer Goods and Logistics), Santosh Thomas (Continental Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific operations), Mark Livingston (Cognizant Business Consulting), Gajen Kandiah (Business Process Services) and Steven Schwartz (Chief Legal and Corporate Affairs Officer).
